Cake Boss Recipe

I explain how you can use this to flavour everything from cake batter to frosting to chilli. Buddy’s basic vanilla cake boss recipe can be found below.

Topped with dollops of icing and sprinkled with red, pink, and white sprinkles. The best part of this cake is the fun surprise when you cut it open to reveal a sprinkle-filled centre!

The red fondant love heart on top of the cake can be used as a cake topper as well.


  • 1 1/2 cup cake flour, plus additional for flouring the cake pans
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar 8 tablespoons (1 stick) softened, room temperature unsalted butter
  • 34 cup cocoa
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • a quarter teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened Baker’s chocolate, melted
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 large eggs (at room temperature)
  • 1 cup of buttermilk Unsalted butter (about 2 tablespoons) for greasing two cake pans; nonstick cooking spray or vegetable oil may be substituted.

INSTRUCTIONS: How To Prepare, Cook cake boss?

  1. Combine sugar, shortening, butter, and vanilla in the bowl of a standing mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and mix on low-medium speed until smooth, about 3 minutes.
  2. With the machine turned on, slowly pour in the water in a thin stream and continue to mix for 3 minutes, or until completely absorbed.
  3. Refrigerate the buttercream for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container.
